Colour Table

Bentley Advanced Map Finishing can create PostScript output in monochrome, colour, or as colour separations. Output files produced by Bentley Advanced Map Finishing can be sent to any PostScript device.

If a colour file is printed on a black and white device, grayscales are approximated for the colours by the printer. Therefore, the monochrome option of Bentley Advanced Map Finishing is now rarely used. If monochrome output is required for final output, the most popular technique is to use gray colours from the colour table and output the plot as colour.

In some situations, it may be necessary to produce the same figure as both colour output and as monochrome. In this case, elements can be drawn in the desired colours and tagged with aBentley Advanced Map Finishing grayscale for plotting in colour mode or monochrome mode respectively. The Bentley Advanced Map Finishing monochrome option is retained for this situation.

The files produced by colour separation are simply black and white files that correspond to each colour plate. They can be printed to show the results of the separation process for checking purposes.
